The Chalki Music Festival – Dimitris Kremastinos has received a European distinction, as it was selected as one of the ten new “good practices” of cultural heritage in Europe by the European Heritage Hub programme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It is an European initiative funded by the European Union and created in 2023 as a European pilot project, aiming to connect institutions, organisations and local communities from all over Europe and strengthen cooperation, education and exchange of experience on the protection and enhancement of cultural heritage. At the same time, it promotes actions that link culture to the contemporary challenges of sustainability, social participation and digital transition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the framework of the European Open Call for 2026, ten good practice local initiatives have been selected that highlight the role of cultural heritage in the development of local communities. Among these is the Chalki Music Festival – Dimitris Kremastinos, which was recognised as an action that links music creation, education and the participation of the local community, contributing to the sustainable cultural development of a small island town.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Festival, which has been held for the last five years on Chalki island, has managed to enhance the cultural life of the island through sustainable practices and actions that bring together musical creation with education and the local community. At the same time, it highlights the potential of small island communities to actively participate in the European cultural dialogue and contribute to the shaping of a pluralistic cultural landscape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As the Mayor of Chalki, Mr. Evangelos Fragkakis, points out, “the selection of Chalki and the Chalki Music Festival – Dimitris Kremastinos by the European Heritage Hub as one of the ten best heritage practices in Europe is an extremely honourable distinction for all of us. This recognition confirms that even a small island community can, through systematic effort, cooperation and vision, make a substantial contribution to the preservation and promotion of European cultural heritage”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As he highlights, “the initiative that has been implemented on Chalki island for the last 5 years proves that culture can be a driver of sustainable development and extroversion for island regions. The Festival team, under Nikos Haliassas and Aliki Fidetzi, contributed to the implementation and development of this initiative, which is now recognized in the European arena.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mr. Nikos Haliassas, Artistic Director of the Chalki Music Festival, notes that “6 years ago the foundations of a dream were laid… a dream that the late Dimitris Kremastinos of Chalki had”. As he says, this is how the Festival’s journey began in the small but dynamic Chalki, which in recent years has been a pioneer in cultural initiatives. “For all of us, his distinction is very important and fills us with ‘fresh’ energy to continue and grow the cultural course of our own Chalki”, he underlines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Chalki Music Festival – Dimitris Kremastinos is under the auspices of the President of the Republic and is implemented by p-art of the solution AMKE in collaboration with the Municipality of Chalki.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Festival is honoured to receive the support of the Hellenic Ministry of Culture, the Hellenic Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Hellenic Parliament, the General Secretariat of the Aegean & Island Policy, the Regional Union of Municipalities of South Aegean and the Development Agency of Dodecanese.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
