The Municipality of Chalki won the GOLD award at the Best City Awards 2026, confirming once again its pioneering role in the implementation of innovative, sustainable and digital solutions in local government.
Chalki was distinguished in the category Redevelopment Projects for the nomination:
“Redevelopment of the Municipal Green Technologies Park – NHSOS Project” in collaboration with CERTH (Centre for Research & Technology Hellas), a project with a strong environmental, social and educational footprint, incorporating green technologies, innovation and a modern concept of public space.
The GOLD award ceremony took place on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at the Serafio, Municipality of Athens, in the presence of representatives of the Hellenic State, Local Government and the business community.
The Mayor of Chalki, Mr. Evangelos Fragkakis, stated:
“Chalki proves that even small islands can lead the green transition and innovation. The GOLD award at the Best City Awards 2026 is recognition of a collective effort and a vision that turns sustainability into a daily practice, making Chalki a living laboratory of good practices for Greece and Europe”.
This distinction reinforces the strategic path of Chalki as a “GR-eco Island” and confirms that local government can, with planning and cooperation, produce results of international reference.
