With great honor and a sense of national pride, the Municipality of Chalki welcomed the Greek Deputy Minister of National Defense, Mr. Athanasios Davakis, who visited the Chalki Surveillance Outpost on the occasion of the Holy Days of Easter, in order to exchange greetings with the members of the Hellenic Armed Forces serving on the island.
The Deputy Minister and his entourage were welcomed by the Mayor of Chalki, Mr. Fragkakis Evangelos, who expressed the warm thanks of the local community for the continuous support of the Greek State in the outlying islands.
The visit was also attended by Lieutenant General Dimitrios Vakentis as the new Commanding General of the Higher Military Command of Interior and Islands, who was informed about the operational readiness and the needs of the island’s garrison.
The presence of the political and military leadership strengthened the sense of security of the residents of Chalki and highlighted the Hellenic State’s constant concern for strengthening defense and everyday life on the outlying islands.
Particular reference was made to the important role of the Hellenic National Guards, who contribute substantially to the security and armoring of the homeland.
The Municipality of Chalki expresses its gratitude to the Hellenic Armed Forces and all those who serve with dedication, ensuring peace, security and national sovereignty.
A special pleasure for our island was the participation in the mission of the Director of the Office of the Deputy Minister, Mrs. Despina Spanou, a fellow countrywoman from Chalki, whose presence gave a particularly symbolic character to the visit.
