The Mayor of Chalki, Mr. Evangelos Fragkakis, is a member of the Judging Committee for the 2026 Environmental Awards, one of the most important institutions recognising initiatives and actions that promote environmental protection, sustainable development and green innovation in Greece.

This participation is a particular honour both for him and for Chalki, an island which in recent years has emerged as a model of sustainable development and the green transition, through the implementation of pioneering projects in the fields of energy, the circular economy, electric mobility, water resource management and sustainable tourism.

The Mayor of Chalki’s presence on the Environmental Awards Judging Committee confirms the international recognition of the Municipality’s efforts to promote a new development model for small islands, based on innovation, resilience and respect for the environment.

In a statement, the Mayor of Chalki said:

‘My participation on the judging committee for the Environmental Awards is a great honour and a great responsibility. Chalki has demonstrated that even a small island can lead the way in the green transition and serve as an example for other island and remote regions.

Environmental protection and sustainable development are not a choice, but a necessity for the future of our local communities and future generations”.

The Municipality of Chalki will continue to invest in initiatives and policies that promote sustainability, innovation and the quality of life of its residents, actively contributing to the achievement of national and European environmental and climate targets.
