The Municipality of Chalki records a particularly important moment for the course of the island, as the public reference of the Prime Minister of the Hellenic Republic, Mr. Kyriakos Mitsotakis, to Chalki confirms, at the highest institutional level, that a small island can become a national and European reference point for green transition and innovation.

This recognition is not only for a single project, but for the overall strategic vision that has been implemented in recent years, turning Chalki into a laboratory for sustainable policies, technological applications and modern governance models.

Some information about our Chalki:

It was the first island to ensure that the citizens of the Energy Community have access to affordable and clean “green” energy through the GR-eco Islands strategy.

It became the first Municipality in Greece to record its carbon footprint and completed a Municipal Emission Reduction Plan using artificial intelligence (AI)

It was distinguished nationwide with the Gold award in Bravo Sustainability Dialogue Gold & Awards 2025.

It transformed inactive sites into modern centres of environmental monitoring and innovation, using digital technologies, sensors and smart energy systems.

This shows that innovation is not the prerogative of large urban centres, but the result of vision, cooperation and systematic strategy.

The Municipality of Chalki will continue to invest in innovative solutions and partnerships, strengthening the island’s position as a model “smart”, green and resilient small island municipality in Europe.
