The Mayor of Chalki, Mr. Evangelos Fragkakis, participated in the Extraordinary General Assembly of the Central Union of Municipalities in Greece (KEDE), which took place on Tuesday, December 17, 2025 in Athens, at the Divani Caravel Hotel in the presence of the Minister of Interior, Mr. Theodoros Livanios.
The central topic of the Assembly was the New Local Government Code, a critical institutional framework that directly affects the operation, responsibilities and funding of the country’s Municipalities.
The Mayor of Chalki stressed the importance of the substantial participation of small and island Municipalities in the formulation of the new Code, pointing out that the peculiarities of micro-insularity must be taken into account in practice, in order to ensure the equal and effective operation of Local Government.
The presence of the Municipality of Chalki in leading institutional processes of the Local Government strengthens the voice of the small islands and confirms the firm claim of a fair, functional and modern framework for all Municipalities for the benefit of the daily life of the citizens.
