Visit of the President of the Green Fund to Chalki for the financing of the project “Rehabitation of the Mountain Settlement (Horio) of Chalki”

The Municipality of Chalki welcomed the President of the Green Fund, Mr. Giiannis Androulakis, in the context of an official working visit to investigate and promote the financing of the emblematic project “Revival – Rehabitation of the Mountain Settlement (Horio) of Chalki”.

Present at the meeting were the President of the Primary School Mrs. Angeliki Vogiatzoglou, the Deputy Mayor of Culture Mr. Diosmakis Spyridis, the Deputy Mayor of Development Mr. Vasilis Roussakis, the Deputy Mayor of Everyday Life Mr. Dimitris Fragkakis, the President of the Société Anonyme of the Municipality of Chalki ,Mr. Ioannis Cheimonettos, the Company’s Managing Director, Mr. Manolis Syntychakis, the President of the ChalkiON Energy Community and Scientific Advisor to the Mayor of Chalki, Mr. Vassilis Chatziaras, and the external partner and advisor of the Municipality of Chalki, Mrs. Marina Maniati.

During the visit, a detailed presentation of the integrated plan of the Municipality of Chalki was held, which aims at the rehabitation of the historic mountain settlement in successive phases, with respect to cultural heritage, the natural environment and the principles of sustainable development. The project includes, among others, the restoration of municipal buildings, the creation of housing, social and administrative structures, education, innovation and culture spaces, as well as the development of modern water supply, sewerage, energy and primary sector infrastructure.

The President of the Green Fund had the opportunity to visit the site of the Horio, to see up close the current situation and to be informed about the multiple benefits of the project, such as the retention and attraction of the population, the balanced development of the island, the protection and promotion of the cultural reserve and the strengthening of the green and innovative identity of Chalki as GReco Island.

The Mayor of Chalki, Mr. Evangelos Fragkakis, thanked Mr. Androulakis on the practical interest of the Green Fund about Horio and stressed that the re-inhabitation of Horio is a project of national and developmental importance for the small islands, which can serve as a model for similar interventions in mountainous and island municipalities throughout the country.

The visit ended in a very positive atmosphere, with a common will to continue the close cooperation and the maturation of the necessary procedures, so that the project can proceed immediately to the next phase of financing and implementation.
